Corresponds to the Real Federación Española de Piragüismo (Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation) and by delegation to the Organising Committee of the International Sella River Descent (C.O.D.I.S.)
The Official Departure will be at 12:00pm.
The race is open to both Spanish and foreign canoeists with a valid competition license for that year.

The participation in K2 and C2 of Spanish canoeists of different clubs is allowed if they have a “Combined License” in accordance with the rules of the Real Federación Española de Piragüismo (Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation). | ||
For a category to be recognised at least three canoeists from two different clubs must participate. | ||
If not, the canoe will automatically be registered in the nearest superior category. | ||
TYPES OF CANOE | ||
K1, K2, C1, C2, of the RR type (kayaks of Aguas Bravas without rudder and kayaks of mar SS1). | ||
For canoes of the RR type, they will be a single category. | ||
For canoes from the Mixed category (K2 and C2), they will be manned by a man and a woman. | ||

The starting order will be determined by categories, those finishing in Ribadesella will go first followed by the categories finishing in Llovio.

The starting order of the competitors will be determined by a public computer draw at the Casa de Cultura in Ribadesella at 4:00 pm on Thursday, 1st August.
A time trial will be held in Ribadesella on Thursday, 1st, August, for competitors, challenging for the primary starting positions
The information on the time trial will be as an annex to these rules, released at least one month before the race
Formation of the Leading Competitors:
All the canoeists classified in the last International Sella River Descent as the first ten K1 and K2 finishing in Ribadesella are Leading Competitors, and are able to compete either in K2 or in K1.

The Leading Competitors will also be members of national teams of different countries registered by their respective federations or chosen by the Spanish Provincial Federations, able to register as K1 and Senior K2 by Country/Provincial Federation, other than for exceptions established by the Organising Committee (CODIS).
The canoes must be in their corresponding position determined by the public draw at 11.00 am (one hour before departure), where they will be verified by the Jueces de Orilla (Shore Judges).
The canoes must be completely out of the water, and the canoeists on land, in front of the metal structure (stocks) where the paddles must be placed. The stocks will be closed fifteen minutes before the official departure (at 11:45am) and no competitor can place paddles in them after they have been closed.
At the end of the protocol ceremony and the Asturias anthem, the start ‘Judge’ will start the race by changing the traffic lights from red to green, which will allow the stocks to be opened in order to release the paddles. At the same time the Sella River cannon will be fired.
It is strictly forbidden to warm up in the departure zone one hour before the official start time.
The Gate Judges will disqualify any canoe that fails to comply with these rules by notifying the Referee Judge, even if the canoe has already started the race. Grounds for disqualification: warming up in the water before departure, not having the canoe out of the water, not having the paddles in the stocks, leaving early, missing numbers or sticker on the canoe.
- Route A: Section of the River Sella between the Bridges of Arriondas and Ribadesella (20km).
- Route B: Section of the River Sella between the Bridges of Arriondas and the Llovio railway (15km).
The finish line is the Ribadesella Bridge marked with a FINISH banner (20 km). Route A.
The following categories: Cadets, Veterans over 50, Mixed (except the senior K2) and canoes from the RR category will finish at the Bridge of Llovio railway (15 Km). Route B.
The canoes finishing at the Llovio Railway can also choose to finish in Ribadesella in the general classification.
The numbers to be collected by club delegates, on Friday, 2nd, August, from 9am to 2pm and from 4pm to 8pm, and on Saturday, 3rd from 9am to 10am at the Javier Hernanz Municipal Sports Centre in Arriondas.
Individual classification according to Clubs, Provinces and Nationality. The general classification of canoes that finish in Ribadesella and Llovio will also be published
Classification by Country.
The classification by country is determined according to the total time for the first two canoes of each national team reaching the finish line in Ribadesella.
Classification by Provinces.
LThe classification by Province is determined according to the total time for the first two canoes selected by the provincial federations, reaching the finish line in Ribadesella.
Classification by Club.
The total score per club is determined by the overall time of the three best canoes finishing in Ribadesella and the three best canoes finishing in Llovio.
For a club to enter the general classification by club, it must have at least 3 canoes for each of the finishing lines.
The control time is 30 minutes for both finish lines from the arrival of the first canoe of each category.
Registrations must be made through a club or through a National or Provincial Federation for regional or national teams.
The registration of combined canoes (canoeists of different clubs/provincial federations in double canoes) must be made through the club of one of the participants and not scored by the clubs, or by provincial federations, or by the country
The registration fee is €20 per canoeist.
Registration costs include the following:
- Competition registration.
- A rucksack of the 83rd International Sella River Descent.
- T-shirt of the 83rd International Sella River Descent.
- Food Voucher for the Campos de Oba.
- Award for all canoeists finishing within the control time in Ribadesella.
Registration opens on 20th, June 2019 and closes on 24th, July 2019 for all teams. Phone registrations will not be accepted.

The registration fee is to be paid to CODIS by credit card, debit card or PayPal, through the registration management website.
The lists of those registered can be viewed on the website www.descensodelsella.com and will be displayed in the Javier Hernanz Municipal Sports Center from 1st, August in order for the clubs to verify errors.
To take place on Thursday, 1st, August, after the time trial of the Leading Competitors, at the Centro de Mayores of Ribadesella.
The raising of the provincial flags will take place on Wednesday, 31st, July at 5:30pm at the Ribadesella finishing podium, during the Minisella celebrations. Canoeists may participate in this ceremony if they wish.
The Opening Ceremony, with the raising of national flags, will take place on Friday, 2nd, August at 8:00pm, starting at the Arriondas ‘Plaza del Ayuntamiento’ (Town Hall square). It will finish with the raising of the national flags of the participating countries. Canoeists may participate in this ceremony if they wish.
Ribadesella podium
Medals and Monteras (traditional Asturian hat) will be awarded to the first three canoes from K1 and K2, men and women, and the first three C1 and C2 men, at the Ribadesella podium, immediately after the race finishes.
The winners must go up to the podium alone wearing their competition clothing and official number.
Llovio podium
The award of prizes for the first three places of the different Categories and Types of Canoe and for the first three clubs, Provincial Federations and countries will take place from 5pm in the Campos de Oba in Llovio.
The winners must go up to the podium alone wearing their team kit.
The money prizes for participants and clubs will be published as an Annex to the rules at the end of June.
Prizes for clubs will be paid by cheque at a later date.
Anti-doping controls may be carried out in accordance with national and international regulations, on any participant.
Registration is governed by the rules of this race and by the rules for marathon races of the RFEP and the International Canoe Federation (ICF).
The results can be viewed on the information panels at the awards ceremony in the Campos de Oba.
Any claim must be submitted in writing, with a payment of €75 to the Competition Committee, up to 30 minutes after the results have been published. The Committee will be at the Organisation’s office in the Campos de Oba.
Participation in the race implies acceptance of the terms, rules, and the annexes of this event.
The Organising Committee of the International Sella River Descent is not responsible for any damage or injury that may occur during this competition.
Signature of the registration form is a declaration that the athlete is of amateur status, as defined by the ICF, that they are able to swim 50 meters in sportswear and that they have a valid competition license for canoeing, accepting and exempting the organisers of the race, both in fact and in law, of the responsibilities and consequences from their participation in the International Sella River Descent, in relation to people and canoes, cars and items before, during and after the race, formally waiving any claim against the organisers.
The request to participate in this race implies full acceptance of the Rules of this race.

TIME TRIAL: Once the registration period is over, the starting order, route plan and the number of those canoes participating in the time trial will be notified.
The use of rudders will be mandatory in the time trial.
REMINDER: The start numbers according to the time trial and the draw can be collected by the clubs, on Friday, 2nd, August, from 9:00am to 2:00pm and from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, at Arriondas Municipal Sports Centre. On Saturday, the collection of numbers will be from 9:00am to 10:00am from the Casa de Cultura in Arriondas
The meeting will be on Thursday, 1st at 11:30am in the Centro de Mayores Los Más Grandes de Ribadesella (Plaza de Abastos).
